I have a chance to get either of them for about the same price. Which would you go with and why?

note: it's a standard rat 3 (1095 steel w/flat grind) with micarta handles and kydex sheath vs. a paracord wrapped landi RSK (A2 steel w/convex secondary grind) also with kydex sheath

3 for the warranty. Period. I have customs but they hardly ever see work since im afraid if I bust one up that im dead in the water.

Ontario RAT 3 or ESEE/RC3?
ESEE warranty's their knives against any and all damage (other than rust/tarnish and wear from excessive sharpening)
Ontario & Landi do not.
Landi has a slightly longer blade, ESEE has a better sheath system.
OTOH, A2 is pretty nice steel.

Well I think that the esee 3 is a great knife.I have mine close by most of the time.

Hope this helps.

I have what I believe to be one of the first knives that John Landi offered up for sale on the forums. It is 1095 and at or less than 1/8" thick. It takes and holds a very nice edge. I say that I have it, but my wife actually uses is most often for kitchen duty. It is not really designed for that, but because of its sharpness and handiness, it is her favorite. If you want a knife to be a knife, then I would choose the Landi hands down- even though I REALLY don't like para wrapped handles...

I have both the RAT3 from Ontario and a Landi knife. The Landi is excellent, an makes for a perfect edc fixed blade. My Ontario RAT3 is part of my woods walking kit. Both are fine choices, but I lean towards the Landi since John is such a pleasure to do business with.

Get the landi. In my experience, ontarios heat treat as well as fit and finish are spotty at best, while with a custom you know you are getting great heat treat and fit and finish. Would be a no brainer for me.
