Well I got my RAT-3 1095 in the mail yesterday and it's friggin' SWEET! However as I was tying off the lanyard for it, out slips the knife and flays my left forefinger down to the bone  ! Three stitches later I"m doin ok but have a nasty cut and some swelling.

The only complaint I had with the knife is that it wasn't very sharp, and there's a quarter inch of the tip that won't sharpen at all due to the grind being jacked up there. The rest of the knife sharpened up WICKED sharp as I'm sure you'll be able to see in the pics. Also, there's some of the coating that came off during reprofiling, but that was my fault :o . All in all I LOVE it!

Here are the pics of the knife and the cut...

Finally, are there any nurses/MD's in the house? I have considerable swelling on my first knuckle and it's sore as all hell. I'm thinking it's just the fluids and blood putting pressure on the joint making it sore. I had a couple of nurses here at work (pediatric) and they say that's probably most likely what's happening. I now realize how important a suture kit could be to have in a kit; anyone have any leads on some? Preferably the prepackaged, sterile stuff. I was thinking of getting a kit and a book. What books would be a more advanced first-aid reference? I have lots of first-aid training but nothing as advanced as sutures, save sucking chest wounds, broken bones, and the like (Marine Corps). Thanks in advance guys and enjoy the gross pics!! :D

There are several makers you can get to customize that RAT3. I am going to take the coating off of mine, and might get new scales for it, just because my paws are too big for it. There are several makers and manufacturers out there who customize productions to your specifications. Mike Stewart has done some great work.

One is very busy with custom orders that I know of. I'm waiting on a sheath from Mike Stewart for a Woodland Special, and he said it might be a while, he's finishing up orders right now and is swamped. I'll PM the maker and see if its okay to post his name, and will send it to you or post it here. Between his regular job, custom orders, and production modifications, swamped is an understatement.

my guess as to the swelling would be fluid build up....Where your hands clean before you cut them....If it gets sverly aggitated I would seek medical attention from a doctor to insure that there is not an infection going on....Also just my opinion (shouldn't matter much) but I would advise against a suture kit unless you are medically qualified to perform this act. If you suture up some dirt or contaminate inside of your body your time n the bush would be 10x worse than if you just applied direct pressure with gauze to control the bleeding or used some butterfly strips. Way cool knife I've been thinking alot about picking one of those up...I think they make 'em in d2.

Cool knife, I kind of want one now that everybody likes them.

P.S. DOn't feel bad about cutting your finger..... It happened to me a few weeks ago....:o

They make the RAT series in both D2 and 1095. Same for the TAK's. I prefer their D2, but the RAT3 was an impulse buy.

Don't worry that was only its love nip! Seriously, that's a great looking knife!

WOW , what a cut , after my trip from colorado i was clean my knives up and rubbing a light oil on them with my finger and the TAK:mad: cut me, my fault but wicked sharp even after all the cutting kindling:D

They seriously do get CRAZY sharp. Were it not for that quarter inch on the tip I could push cut newspaper easily. It still cuts like a demon even with the tip slightly messed up. It's not dull per se but a working edge there.

Thanks for the comments guys; I've been carrying it all day and it's not so bad for neck carry. I have a mercharness en route and I'm gonna try it that way.

You're right Shotgun; it ain't yours unless you've been bit!

Thanks silenthunter. I look forward to it!
