Just ordered the Rat 4 via recommendations from here, from Knife Connection, and it is in route. I got the desert tan without serrations. Has anyone else used it as a hikers knife? Not too heavy and still big enough to do jobs? I got it rather that the 3 because I still like a slightly bigger blade. I am just wondering since I may just take that along if I hike. I am not a big hiker, just a weekend warrior that goes camping once and awhile. In a pop up with all the other modern conveniences... but I still like a handy knife along to go along with my SA or multi tool.

The rc4 feels grest in the hands and is a great knife. I'm not a hiker but I am an avid hunter and mine has been used several times inthe field with no complaints whatsoever. Everything i've needed it ffor its done with no problem and it retains its edge through alot of abuse. I also have a HEST thats worked very well for me in the field.

I have both the RC-3 and RC-4. The RC-4 is the biggest knife I will carry typically, and it is a GREAT knife in that role.

You made a good choice with the RC-4, though the RC-3 would have worked good also. Down the road, you will probably end up having both anyway, and have a hard time choosing the one to carry any given outing.

You done good! I like the RC-4 and the thicker blade also...if you wanted a knife for camping/hiking, I think you chose the right one.

:thumbup:Congrats on your RC-4!

I'm still undecided on the RC-4 vs. the RC-5 for a dedicated woods/hunting knife.I'm leaning towards the 4 more & more though. The 5 may be a bit more than I need.Plus I like the orange scales on the 4!:)

I got an RC-4 with intentions on using it for hiking/camping/backpacking but the RC-3 is a bit lighter and your only losing a little bit of blade length. Its still a great choice(its really not that heavy), I'll still take it camping and hiking, but on the longer backpacking trips where every ounce counts I'll take the rc3

The RC-4 will make for a great camping/hiking knife, as does the RC-3. It's not heavy nor to big for what you'll be using it for, it's a great choice. Congrats on your new RC-4!

Thanks everyone...I will keep checking for the postman to deliver...almost like Christmas again! But it is for my birthday in Jan. I have handled a RC3 at a local gun show and I did like the feel of it....I probably will somewhere down the line get it too.

Congrats on your inbound RC4!! I got my RC3 (first and currently only RAT) in desert tan and really like the color and finish! I feel that a RC4 is in my future!! Enjoy............

I am an avid hiker/backpacker and have takin my RC-4 on many adventures. I have since switched to an RC-3Mil as my primary hiking knife. You really can't go wrong with either one. You are really going to like that RC-4, Congrats!

i bought the rc4 first like you. and i liked it so much after receiving it, that i
ordered a izula. i edc the izula. congrats!!!!!

Post how you like it when it gets there. Trying to make a decision between the RC4 and RC5 myself and would like as many opinions as I can get.

Why do you want to carry a knife while hiking? What purpose will it serve?

i carry a knife at work, so why would'nt he carry one hiking?. a knife is a
tool it has multiple use's. prepping fuel for a fire, making lunch. i guess
you were not a scout ( be prepared).

If you hike in certain parts of Oklahoma a knife is the smallest thing you would want to carry. Rattle snakes don't flinch to much at just a nice smile. You never know who or what you will run into hiking.
