Well, I did a very basic search (Im stuck on my cell phone) and couldnt find an answer. Are the RAT 5 and RAT 7 scales interchangeable?

So nobody has any idea?

I have an idea that they are in fact same/same. I've got a RAT 5 coming on Friday. I don't have a RAT 7 yet, so nothing to compare to, but from internet photos, they appear to have the same scales.re

My new TAK-1 came a few days ago and rekindled my interest in the RAT series. The handle is very different on the TAK, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it fits my hands.

Thanks. I sent an email to Ontario a few days ago, still waiting to hear from them. I had a TAK in D2 and made the mistake of selling it.

My Rat 5 came today, and I think it's got real promise. I haven't done anything more than hold, admire, and smile, but I'm honestly surprised that it's not more popular with the bushcraft crowd. It's much thinner/lighter than the ESEE 5, and seems to be a very reasonable, practical blade that will never have to dodge the "sharpened prybar" label. I was also surprised how comfortable the handle is, considering it's such a basic design, and has very minimal efforts in rounding the edges. For my hands it's not as comfortable as the full size Beckers, but it's still very acceptable, which honestly surprises me. If the Rat 7 has the same handle, then I'll be ordering one for the added length, forward weighted balance, and even cleaner lines.

Glad to hear your happy with it. If I dont hear anything back in response to my email in another week or so I may have a RAT 7 I'd be interested in selling. Lol

Hey Jester,

Sorry we haven't gotten back to you. I've been traveling a lot lately, and if I had to guess, I'd say that a spam filter got in the way of your email or our reply (that doesn't happen a ton, but often enough that it's where my mind goes to first. Let me see if I can figure out the answer to your question and come back. Keep in mind, you can always use the "Ask Toooj" thread. That's probably who I will ask anyway.

IDK if Veteran's Day will interrupt my delivery, but I'm supposed to be receiving my RAT 7 today. I will answer this question when Brown Truck Santa finally pulls up.

Excellent. Your gonna love the 7. I had a 5 and it just didnt do it for me. I've got a 7 and a 3, both in D2. Im looking to get a matching set of TommyTheWho handles for them.

I wish the 3 had larger handles, but even the later ESEE version is small for my hands. Perfect size/shape blade however.

When the 7 gets here, I'll have the whole RAT lineup to mix and match as my moods direct me. Right now I can envision the TAK-1/RTAK II combo, the RAT5/RTAK II combo, or a RAT7/Mora combo.................or any one of them running solo. All excellent designs and material. While I'll NEVER turn my back on my Becker collection (the ergonomics and steel are superb), the Ontario RAT series represents an incredible value in the production knife world, and I'd be lying to myself if I tried to ignore that.

And not to start a sub-discussion or hijack my own thread (really!), but I actually like the Ontario RATs better than the ESEE versions both for price and value, and because IMO this style of knife is supposed to be rugged and simple, and the ESEE's are dolled up just enough to detract from that a little. Plus I like canvas micarta better than linen. Any issues with the heat treat or warranty can be addressed by OKC if the time comes.

My 7 just arrived, and the handles are exactly same/same as on the RAT 5.

Thanks for the info. I had been wondering for a while if they were the same. I own a RAT3, TAK1, and RAT7.

After looking at photos on the interwebs, I am wondering if the TAK1 and RTAK2 are the same and are interchangeable as they look similar?

They're not even close. The TAK1 is smaller than the RAT5 (a very usable size and shape I might add), while the RTAK2 is the precursor of the ESEE Junglas, ie a huge chopper with MUCH bigger scales. Hope this helps.
