Hello BF. I bought a Rat 5 about 6 months ago and it has seen light duty for the most part. I have this evening all alone in my home and am bored. So I soaked my 1000 and 6000 stones and commenced sharpening. The blade is moderately thick at the spine (4.4 mm or .17 inches approximately) and is flat ground to the secondary bevel. I began using a 20 degree angle and noticed that this was too acute for the bevel. I ended up matching the secondary bevel at approximately 30 degrees per side. Is this normal for this type of knife? I suppose that the obtuse angle will offer a stronger edge, which I am not opposed to since I will use this as a camping knife later this summer when I return to my home in MO.
Just curious if this is a normal angle for a Rat 5.
