Rat 5 or TAK1

they're not that different - I have a D2 TAK love it.
here's an old post comparing the 2:
I've seen several people ask about the difference between the RAT-5 and the TAK. Both are 1095. Here are some pics....

The RAT-5 is on the bottom.

RAT-5 is on the left. It looks like the bottom of the knives are not lined up...but they really are.

A do all Survival knife is how I plan on using it
Tough call...

Anyway, as you can see in the pictures posted, seems like the RAT 5 will give you a bit more cutting edge, jimmping, a bigger choil you can use and, not in the pictures, a better seath. If you don't like the pointy pommel you may want to look for a versión without said pommel.

The ones im looking at both comes with a nylon sheath. What after market sheath options do i have with these knives leather and kydex? I hear the TAK fits perfectly in an ontario 499 air force sheath which i can pick up for 23 bucks. I think the rat 5 will be too big. I also hear the rat 5 has better balance. The TAK is supposedly handle heavy

Have you checked the equivalent knives in the RC line (ESSE)? There you can get them with Kydex sheaths and all....

esee is 120 bucks while ontario is 67 bucks. So ill have to go with ontario for now

which would do best for processing a deer or elk, the rat 5 or tak1?

I am not a hunter by any means but according to what I have read here in BladeForums, for game processsing people tend to choose much shorter blades so they have a better control of it (think having your index finger along the whole spine of the blade). That said, the smaller the cutting edge, the better... so I would say TAK1. Also the pointy pommel of the RAT5 will be more of a hassle than anything else for general use.
