RAT-7 sharpening

Whats the best way to sharpen a RAT-7?...So far I tried the leather strap and it didnt do much good and I've gotten the best results from just a steel rod...I tried stones but I suck at that and just made it worse...With the steel rod I get it to close to shaving but not quite...How can I make it shave?

You need to go to a coarser grit, try some 1200 or higher grit on a peice of flat glass and sharpen by pulling the edge away from the sandpaper at the appropriate angle. To find the appropriate angle, lay the blade flat onto the sandpaper, and raise the angle up until there is no gap between the blade and sandpaper. After you sharpen with the sand paper, go to the strop.

The steel doesn't sharpen, it re-aligns the edge, the strop removes tiny amounts of metal and is meant for the final polishing or touchups.

thanks I will try that...I'm totally in love with this knife I must say very pleased...I did forget to mention its 1095
