I've looking at these to models for quite some time now, but i don't know know what one to get. Any suggestions? Thanks

p.s. I want to know about handling, batoning, food and fire prep, etc.

I like Buck knives, but I'd get the RAT-7 (non-serrated) in D2. It's a better shaped, tougher knife for wilderness survival. The Buck Nighthawk looks and feels more like a killing tool than a utilitarian field knife.

Try and Handle them both-See what feels better in your hand..

The RAT 7 is a better knife-It also costs more.

The rat 7 is the best outa the two, but it carries a larger price tag, If that concerns you, the buck will do.

As a general purpose camp/survival type knife I don't think you can go wrong with the RAT knives because this is what they have been designed for, however for the uses you describe I would be tempted to look at the RAT 5 or the TAK,the RAT7 is a little large for food prep and finer tasks.
If however the issue of rust enters into your equation then the nighthawk would place higher on the list and is still one hell of a tough knife !

Thanks for your inputs, I'm starting to lean towards the RAT 7, but I've been eye balling the original LMF on ebay.

Rat-7. I prefer a flat grind over the hollow grind of the Buck.
