This is gonna be short and simple until I get another Rat 7. I brought out my brand new Rat 7 and very used CS LeatherNeck in 40 degree weather. Started chopping on wood, and to my dismay I saw the Rat 7 to be bending all over the place. My LeatherNeck has a 15 degree free hand angle, and my Rat 7 has a 25 degree Lansky angle. Very sad. You can see in the pics there are 3 bends in the blade where they struck hard wood. I really don't wanna report on anything else.

Chopping wise they were about the same, but as you can see the Rat 7 has very soft steel, I believe based ion the reviews of other Rat 7's and my experience with 1095 that this knife has a poor heat treat. Here are my pics..........I'm done for now......................

That Kydex sheath will be review separately

A Leatherneck beating a real.knife? Sounds like you may have a botched HT... or you took that RAT through some nasty knots.

It may be that the RAT was ground too thin towards the edge. The dents or bends seem to go pretty far back. I have dented many knives like that.... Knives that should not have been chopped with because of the thin edge but I am stubborn.....It would be interesting to know how thick it is right behind the edge.

Your funny. Nice and even chopping on the same piece of wood. This has got to be 100% Heat Treat, or the factory messed up. If you read my post you would know that I am convinced it is not a standard properly constructed blade.

I'm gonna agree with the crowd looks like a bad heat treat......I'd send it into esee, they'll fix it!

I have beaten the snot out of my old RAT 7, with no damage at all. Mine is one of the early versions, in D2 steel, so maybe that is a more durable material than the current 1095

I would be sending that RAT 7 back to the maker, warranty issue going on there.

I think you're getting the lame Ontario leftovers confused with ESEE. There is no ESEE 7, this is an Ontario blade and I've heard horror stories Bout their inconsistent quality checking.
