I just washed my RAT RC-3 handle slabs off with hot water and dish soap and a tooth brush. It looks awesome and clean and grey again.

Any need to worry about water getting under the handle and causing rust, or will it be good to go? I keep the blade coated with a light coating of Breakfree CLP, but I'm not sure what to do under the handles. What about the screws?

scales are easily removed and you can dry the handle portion if you think you need to but that is what the powder coat is for... I never removed the scales after washing and the screws ? never worried about 'em... if you want to rub a light coat of oil on 'em not going to hurt

The only thing I would worry about under the scales would be a serial number or other writing. I'm not sure what's under the RC-3 but my RC-4 had the serial number under there. It would be easy enough to coat any exposed metal with car or bees wax to ease your mind. If it's all powder coated, no worries.

I've washed my handles off the same way many times and have never had any troubles with rust. If your real worried about it unscrew them and wipe em down. I don't think you have anything to worry about though.

When I clean my micarta slabs, I also soak them in mineral oil. Makes them look great, and you don't have to worry about rust.
