I'm a big fan of RAT Cutlery. I was wondering how the 1095 with that coating they have would hold up to Saltwater exposure?

Has anybody swam or dived with a RAT knife?

Anybody expose it to Saltwater? How did it hold up?

Hello, I didn't exposed these knives to saltwater, but they are excellent knives made of a noble carbon steel, and carbon steel is not a good friend of saltwater.
If you must use a RAT in these conditions I suggest you should be more careful with rust than a stainless steel knife, that all.
Take care.

the RATS will do fine in saltwater, given that they are properly cleaned after exposure and lightly coated in oil!

The coating will do its job but you will need to do your part to keep it maintained.

RAT's do fine in salty wet environments, with a little bit of care and common sense.

I've used mine on the coast, and it's even been dunked to poke or pry things. Haven't dove with it though, nor have I had it in saltwater all day.The knife was relatively new in these pics, so the coating was pretty much intact...all I had to do was wash the knife when I got home, dry it out, and coat it with oil (mineral oil for me). Haven't had any rust on the edge yet. I also coat it generously before taking it out to the beach, preventative care.

Once your coating wears off, you'll need to be more careful about cleaning and oiling after use.

I'm not even sure how to purchase them, but what about a Busse for Salt water expeditions? I'm kinda looking for a high end fixed blade between no more than 6 inches no less than 4. I want something hard use, durable and preferably with a convex edge. I'm in the water and woods a lot. Thank you all so much for your replies!
