well f*ck me, that's what happens when you get out the blade from the sheet inside your front right pocket. you don't know where you're holding the sheet. As the knife came out, I had my finger on top of the sheet where the blade comes out, so essentially I was grabbing the blade. It cut right through my pants into my finger....:o

moral of the story: better to carry it fixed to your belt. I was on the move though, so had to take it off and put it into my pocket so I could carry my backpack with the waistbelt. First aid helps though...

Oh, but I got the fire going from scratch in 8 minutes. The game was to get it over knee high as fast as possible, in an unknow location, collect tinder, only use firesteel and start the fire. I won :D, but almost lost my finger in the process. my knives are sharp

Great pics! So tell me, which knife got the most use and could you have gotten by with just that one during the trip? I think I know the answer but don't what to guess. Looks like you had a fantastic time.

yeah, I had a blast! Most used was actually a tie between the ontario rat 7 and rc-3.

Cut down a lot of dead trees for the long log fire and did most of my batoning with the 7. Also used a bahco laplander folding saw for taking down some of the trees.

My izula was there mainly for the show, could have done without it, being equipped with all the other steel as I was :)

Used the rc-3 for cutting poles for the tarp setup, eating, showing off, getting birch bark, cleaning some branches used for various tasks, poking stuff, cleaning my ears, trying to chop my fingers off :)

My leatherman was quite handy for using the pliers and wire cutters too.

If I had to choose from the above, I would have taken the rc-3 and the bahco saw. You could manage with either the 7 or the 3 alone. Deadwood in our parts can easily be broken, thicker wood for which you would need a good chopper is not a necessity for the kind of stuff I did. So the 7 could have been left at home.

I had a feeling that's what you were going to say! I hope you have more pics and stories for us all. Thanks again! :D

thanks for letting me know about the pics.. I uploaded them again.
In case it wasn't clear, we built a long log fire, keeping us warm all night and burning through about 7 pine trees (standing deadwood) 20 feet high 5-6 inch in diameter.
Makes you feed the fire every 20-30 minutes, but it is soooo comfortably warm :)
