This coming weekend I'm headed out to my friend's deer camp to hunt black powder. I'm getting all my gear ready and the light in my head goes off...

The RAT fire kit has that nice little (water tight) compartment for storage of tinder or whatever you want. I'm looking at my Pyrodex 50 caliber/50 grain charges and think "Hey, I bet that would fit pretty well in the back of the RAT fire kit."

I know everyone shoves tinder, cotton balls, dryer lint, and hand sanitizer in there, but has anyone every put a pre formed gun powder charge in there? Last time I checked gun powder burns pretty well.

Just a thought...

I've never tried to light a fire with gun powder yet. I know that it would flash very easy and very fast! It burns out so fast I'd thick there would need quite a bit there. I saw someone light a camp fire with Thermite and it flashed quick, and that worked. Give it a try and let us know how you did!

hi, pyrodex burns too fast for you to get a light its also harder to spark than you would think. i proved this to my kids by trying to light some with a lighter on my workbench took a while with a bic lighter then poof it was all gone and burned the hair off my hand. now alittle smokeless powder would do a better job it lights much easier and burns slower.

take it easy and good luck hunting
