Hey guys,

I was wondering why Rat Cutlery's Rc-5 Pilot's Survival knife has a sabre grind instead of the usual full flat grind? I know sabre grinds have more strength but why does it only apply to a pilot survival knife?

Well it's a grind most military knives share.Just look at the popular Gerber LMFII, the military Ontarios and the KaBars. Sabre grinds all over to give the blade lateral strength. The military sets standards/specifications on design, strength (and tests them also) and the manufacturers make sure their products meet the specs. But really in most cases the sabre grind isn't the one feature most limiting cutting performance, it's the thick edge shoulder.
