RAT Cutlery vs. Swamp Rat

Both are great Blades and great Companies. Different strokes for different folks. I like both.

I have and like both. Of the two, RAT Cutlery is by far the easier company to buy knives from. The quality of the knives themselves are comparable- Swamp Rat's steel is a little better, IMO. I tend to like the handles on the Swamp Rat knives a bit better. I think my hands are slightly too big for most of the RATs. In terms of performance, the knives are very similar. All very tough, all are backed by bulletproof warranties. RATs come with nicely made sheaths, Swamp Rats do not.

Can't go wrong with either, really.

Please dont judge knifetests for the quality of a knife. They simply destroy a perfectly good knife.

I have and use both, under normal use you wont see a difference, quite honestly. Choose what you like, even both, and enjoy a great piece of cutlery. :)

Depending the knives, res c vs micarta can be one of the big, important difference- depending if it matter to you. Me yes, I like res c! That said, I love my RC3 and it's my car knife.

+1!!! I have both Swamp Rats (old & new) as well as RAT Cutlery blades and as the saying goes, "there are horses for courses." IMHO, ideally you want two blades - a big blade to perform tasks requiring chopping, batoning, and the like, as well as a smaller blade for dressing game, firestarting, and the like.

That being said, RAT Cutlery makes EXCELLENT smaller blades for the finer tasks. I have a RC-4 that slices like a scalpel right out of the box and I hardly notice its weight when its sheathed on my belt. On the other hand, my Swamp Rat Battle Rat can level a 6'' tree in minutes and baton through the whole bloody thing and it will still be begging for more ! Because Swamp Rats are almost indestructable, I would personally go with a Swamp Rat for a larger blade and a RAT for a smaller blade. Either way you won't be disappointed with either knife - I'm sure as hell stoked with both  Just my twosense...which is either priceless or worthless depending on how you take it! Good luck with your seach for the perfect blade my friend!

From what I've read, the Busse kin blades really show their advantages over other makers and companies in their performance in the larger blade categories. As for the smaller blades, it may come down to a matter of aesthetic preference. The Vex and the HC appeal to me more so than RAT knife designs. Both companies have outstanding reputations and I don't see either of them going anywhere.
