RAT Domestic courses

I'd love to do it. I enjoy learning and have heard these guys are excellent teachers.

We have a couple of guys on the forum here that have been through the course. One is Hobo-Jack.

I'd like to try the domestic course, but I think the jungle course would be way over my head.

I think my biggest problem would be the map & compass. I cannot ever remember how to use them, but I would love to be proficient with them.

well I signed up for this one coming up. I think I am going to try bringing my rc-4, fallkniven F1 and Izula. paired with a cold steel latin machete, unless the junglas lite comes out in time for me to get one before the course. that way I can see what I like using the best in the begining and finish with whichever one wins.

Worth every penny. Yes you are limited to what you can bring with you on the final exercise. We had a few cops in the class (self included, cops are notorious cheaters on things like this). Jeff knows this and considered patting us down for hidden gear. But we stuck to the rules and had a blast. If you look at the kit that you are issued in the class, it comes with a Victorinox SAK. I would suggest bringing a cheap machete to go along with it. If you bring a high dollar chopper, make sure it is very secure when we do the river crossing. We had a guy lose an RC-6 and some other stuff when he crossed. As far as the land navigation goes, you won't have any problem learning it. They do an excellent job teaching it (as well as everything else) and you do it everyday so you really get it down pat. This class is loads of fun, and even though you are tired at the end I wished it wasn't over.

This April class is going to be big. There will be a total of 4 instructors: Jimmy Dunn, Tracy Nelson, Hobo-Jack and myself. As Hobo-Jack will tell you, Tracy Nelson is probably one of best woodsmen you will find anywhere - Period. Jimmy is a superb tracker and highly skilled in bushcraft. Hobo-Jack...well the guy is just awesome when you put him in the woods. All four of us will be teaching a variety of skills and crossing over with other instructors on some things. We have a range of students coming including LE, military and some federal agents. Gonna be some long days since we are covering a lot of skills.

First day is land nav and some tracking skills, after that we go into shelters, fire making, observation course, basic rope work, cleaning game, traps and snares....the list goes on. If you are just a beginner once you walk away you will have skills that will keep you alive. If you're an expert woddsman then you will have a load of fun.

As a side note we also have the honor of having our good friend Hugh Coffee attending this class. He's probably one of the best wilderness and tactical medcs in the field. He's not coming to teach but I'm sure you will learn a lot from him. I always do.

One of these days I will make it to one of these courses. I've been doing the dollar bill savings plan in order to save up for it and I'm almost halfway there. Maybe next year as long as nothing crazy happens from now to then.

wow, these training courses are like a dream to me.. never had any expert trainers.. learn everything myself the hard way and could still learn so much more.. i don't know when but i'll be on that course one of these days.. i don't want a vacation in the tropics, laying on the beach.. i want to go deep into the wild.. thats is where my heart is at.. every vacation I take each year is to do survival expedition with minimal gear..

oh well gotta stop now.. long live esee!!

SWEET, I am definately a beginner, I've started practicing bushcraft and tracking and such around the end of last summer and really enjoy it. dont get me wrong I have spent a lot of time outside but this is very different from what I was used to. So I figured gotta start somewhere and I cant wait for this to get here soon enough.
