We got our share of all the snow(a total 1in) everyones been getting. I grabbed the RC-4, my firesteel, and decided to go out back to try my hand at starting a fire in these type conditions. Heres a few pics of my snowy adventure

Thanks For Looking!

I have had a fire built in the snow save my life in the Teton mountains in a couple feet of snow. Spending 7 hours huddled over a fire trying to thaw out was not my idea of fun, but it kept me alive. I was already suffering the early effects of hypothermia, including not thinking very clearly, and I had stopped shivering and instead felt all warm and fuzzy and sleepy. I try to practice more fire building in the snow since then.

thanks for your comments guys.

Bigfattyt: I hope I never find myself in that type situation, but its nice to know that if I am theres a good possibilty there will be fire.

thanks alot guys.

David M: I would love to have more snow. the wife and I are wanting to move to Colorado in a couple of years, we just need to narrow down a location. With our luck though once we move it will never snow again.

Just curious, does using the fire starter put punishment on your knife? From what I have read, it sounds like it is not very good for the knife. I assume you used your rat in the picture?
