can someone direct me to a link to order a RAT Firesteel--would love to have one for my new Sharpshooter sheath:D

As the designated RAT cutlery bubble burster, I get to be the one to tell you that, to the best of my understanding, the RAT firekit won't fit in the loop on the sharpshooter sheaths.

The firekit is a big, thick, honking firesteel and I believe the sharpshooter sheaths are set up for an army firesteel.

Sorry.

LOL--thanks for the info--you're right the one that fits is the army size:D

Can you change the fire steel on the RC model to accept a smaller diameter steel ? I have a RC firesteel and its thicker indeed, but I have yet to play around with it, thats why I ask this question. I really just bought it because its from RC.

it is actually not the rod, but the handle that will not allow it to go in the loop.

Don't let that stop you from getting one though! Derrick has them at Knivesshipfree. If you're knife has the gray/black micarta handle, the matte black micarta firesteels from Bark River match quite nicely. I've got one in mine. KSF carries them as well.

Derrick, I don't understand what you mean by the handle will not allow it to go in the loop? Since the sheath is leather, can you stretch it to fit a thicker rod? It would seem the compartment on the RC firesteel is too large to be attached to the SS sheath, proportion wise? The sheath seems suited more for the army style steels, Just MHO, please no offense to anyone.

See how the firesteel in smcclown05's post sits? The big, bulbous compartment that tops the misch metal rod will not allow the rod to go in the loop. Myadvice, if you want/have a Sharpshooter sheath, get a LiteMyFire firesteel (it is sized for the Army, not the thinner ones), and get a RAT Firestarter kit separately. Reasons being:
1.)The RAT kit cannot fit in the loop.
2.) The RAT misch metal requires a SHARP edge to strike. The LMF firesteels come with a striker that strikes very well (or you can use the back of your knife).

The RAT kit is really an "Oh shit, the sparks from the firesteel won't ignite my tinder and I'm gonna die without a fire" kit. Firesteels are better for using day-to-day.
