Well, need help figure out what should be next on the hit list...

Never held either and could use some help. I had a SW SAR for a bit, I LOVED the handle- awesome, but I struggled with the 1/4" blade...

Any opinion between the two???? Photos are always good too!! :D:thumbup:

I have had all three and still own the Dog Skinner. The SAR was too thick for me so it found a new home. The Rat Hunter had a lot of handle for the blade so that one found a new home too. The Dog Skinner is VERY nice and a keeper. :D

My old school four-Rat lineup:
- Dog Skinner
- Desert Jack
- Ratweiler
- Rat Mastiff

I like the Rat Hunter, it just wasn't for me. The Rat Hunter has about the same blade as the AD but the handle is longer & heavier.

All I have seen for the dog skinner are ones with those black/tan handles. That one you have looks awesome! You never see them! Thanks for posting the photos.

I was just looking at the swamp rat heritage thread and at the bottom...a photo of 4 blades..including the dog skinner and rat hunter! sometimes ya don't have to look to far! I never see dog skinners with the original handles (granted I've only been into swamp rats for a year- so never isn't too long)...you guys see them come up sometimes or are folks holding what they have?

While I never had a Rat Hunter, I really liked the Dog Skinner I had for a while. Pic link below, shown with its Leatherman rattler insert sheath and a cg SAR Rat. I eventually sold it since it was too pretty a setup for me to ever actually use (safe queen) and I hang on hardest to knives that are users.

In spite of that, I think the Dog Skinner would make a really, REALLY good candidate for an EDC knife. It gets high points for its nice mid-size D2 drop-point blade skinny enough to cut, yet thick enough to be robust, coupled with a dependably durable handle. IMHO the Swamp's D2 knives are one of the great sleepers on the market. Great knives at pretty reasonable prices.
