Howdy all. I was hoping someone could post a link to any sites that might have prices for the Rats of the past. I know about the swampshack. I wanted to find a page that listed the app. value, or at least orginal MSRP for all the rats. They come up daily on this forum's for sale site, and I never know what a fair price is for any of the many models, ya know? I've seen prices for the same model vary greatly, and often find myself not jumping on one for lack of knowledge.

I know I found a site at one point that was something like rats 3000 (?), maybe. I would greatly appreciate any help at all.

for prices on the new line check the sticky at the top. as far as older models, iirc:
bandicoot around 90
howling rat around 90
rat trap 140
ratwieller around 170
rat mastiff around 190

give or take. imo bottom line if you like the knife and you feel the price is reasonable go for it. its hard to compare after market prices with current listings. nearly all who post on the exchange are asking a reasonable amount.

There seems to be some confusion regarding this post from some new forum users: This is NOT a "for sale" post. I do not not necessarily own all of the knives on this post nor are any for sale. If you are looking for a Swamp Rat Knife, either go to http://www.ratknives.com/ or the bladeforums Exchange page. Good luck!
Another great resource is http://www.swampshack.com

If you want a discontinued Swamp Rat, be prepared to pay whatever they are selling for on the secondary market since they are no longer available. What do they sell for? Cruise the pages for a few weeks and you'll see a trend per model. Original retail prices are no means to gauge the secondary market value of a discontinued, in-demand knife.

Thanks a lot Paddling_man, and everyone. I got my first Howling Rat with a leather sheath for $119 recently, and had to assume it was fair, since I didn't know any better. Seems right on if they paid for the leather (were they ever included?) and their shipping, right? I would just assume everyone around here is honest (cuz noone would seem to support a joker, right?), but I was also wanting a reference for stuff on the auction sites. I know I came across someone's personal site once that had pictures of every old model with original prices, but whatever, this is a big help. Thanks.

p.s.-what does anyone think of the Scrapyard's line? (too soon to ask?) Is there an appropriate place to ask about those? Don't want to be a trouble maker, as I know this isn't their thread, but they look cool enough on the surface. Anyone?

OK... what did I miss? (besides the different colors of SARs from late summer, early fall of 2005.)

Jeff,

Finding that Howling Rat for $119 is a GREAT deal considering the market recently. These have sold for up to the $200 range with most around the $150 mark.

Great snag! Let us know what you think of your HR when you get it.

:D :D

Nah... just the past. Heck, I don't even know what I'm going to have for lunch today.

I'm auditioning for the job of intern archivist at the Shack.

Thanks for the help. Can someone indulge me as a newbie to the line about tec specs? I don't know where to find out about these things. Just got my Howling Rat. It's got a Res-C handle. Does that mean it's a first gen. Seems like all the new Rats have Micarta handles; is that a new(er) thing, and the Res-C's an older style? And, did they come with standard leather sheaths back then?

What I was most curious about was the grind on these Howling Rats. Are they Asymetrical like the Busse's; or convex on both sides? I don't want to screw up the grind by sharpening it wrong (when it comes to that). This thing is cool as hell, though. Sharpest factory blade I've seen.

Wow. Turns out there's quite a bit more info on Swamp Rats at the swampshack.com than I realized. There's a bunch of tabs at the top of the page I hadn't noticed (duhh). Not to be dramatically technical, cuz I'm really just curious; but I do want to understand the grinds and edges on Rats, and swampshack links to a swissarmy site? I'm not sure what "slightly convex" means. They look like they're flat ground with a convex micro bevel. Is that right? I know. You all have to do this for everyone who discovers this line don't you?
