ok, so i know the RAT izula has sort of a think coating which i dont have a problem with but i was wondering if there was a way to fade the OD green or maybe put the knife in an acid bath to change the texture or color without hurting the steel. i have noticed that some people have removed the finish on their Izula with some sort of acid bath, but i am not sure what they used to do it. thanks

Regular paint-stripper is what I've been reading a few times. That won't hurt the steel but your coating will wipe right off. Or did you mean to alter the looks of the coating? That'd be a challenge to do well.

if you dont like the coating you either get rid of it completely or you deal with it. i really like the coating on mine though.

i was thinking about leaving the knife in my window sill for a long time and see if that fades the color, but i dont think that will work if the coating is bonded to the steel than that wont work.

"leaving the knife in my window sill for a long time and see if that fades the color"

Jester--I don't that will work....
Why not just use it a ton and see if either the coating gets lighter or if you start to like the coating more as you use it? Might just happen. :D

In any event---enjoy!

yeah. well, to tell you the truth, i meant to buy the black one but i accidentally bought the green one. which i still havent decided if i like the color. its not that bad but i wanted to know my options.

If you want to smooth the coating out you could try a medium/fine sandpaper.

if you dont like OD put it up for trade for a black one. i bet there will be a few takers.

yeah. that might work. i have seen some knives with extremely grainy coatings and they look like ceramic which is kind of weird.

im thinking that if i find some pretty cool neon green or international orange paracord i might like it a lot.

I stripped my Izula and it appears to be bead blasted under the coating. I thought is didn't get all the coating off but after 2 more trips to the stripper bath it is still a bit greenish with a bead blast look. I like it and will leave it for now.

OD is my favorite color of any knife blade, how can you not like that

On a serious note, I doubt it will fade any. It is either remove the coating, or use it a ton and it will start to show wear. (Which looks awesome)

Dude that looks like a powder coat. Powder coat is really durable. It might fade a bit but it has to be under direct sunlight and for a long time. Sand it down abit wash and repaint it. It will come out nice whatever color you choose. Just dont sand down to the metal.

sounds like to much work if you wanted a Black Izula just trade for one or order another Izula in black next time...

Your right and the new paint job will never be as durable as the factory paint job.

yeah, actually i got my izula today and i really like the od green. i still need to get some international orange or neon green paracord to wrap it with. it is a lot smaller than i thought. next time i have a chance i think i am going to pick up the becker necker just to compare.
