Doc heres the pic i promised. I'd put it in the thread where i promised i would but..... well since the big "OOPS" with the subscription lists i haven't been able to find that thread. Anyhoo heres the pic-
Picture024cropcropfordoc.jpg

Most of my re-handled knives-from top to Bottom
CS with Bocote handle, Camillus with Ironwood handle, Enzo with Birdseye Birch handle, Rat Izula with crosscut mystery wood, Becker with Cocobolo, Becker with Amboyna Burl.
Oh yeah the pic is not perfect, but then neither are the knives (or me), lol.
:D

And yes these are used as camping/bushcrafting knives so please don't move the thread.
Or at least warn me before moving so i can post pics of these knives sticking in a tree thereby making it qualify to stay, ha! (Just kidding).
:D

Those are gorgeous! Whatever mystery wood you used for the Izula it actually my favorite.

I have the type written down here somewhere i'll have to try and find it, it was an impulse buy on ebay, actually most of the wood in the pic was found on ebay.
I also re-did an old Imperial (R.I) carbon steel stockman using that same wood.
I need to take some pics of that as well.
:)

Thanks guys!
The top two knives have hidden tangs, and the tangs kinda curve which explains the pin/rivet placement.
The Izula was little tricky as i cut the wood to fit the tang and also had the interior of the panels cut to fit in the interior cutouts in the tang so they would fit tight. Then i pinned them with some thin brass rods i had here for SAK modding.
The Amboyna Burl on the bottom Becker was a little brittle/chippy so there are some defects around the rivets. After this knife i stopped using rivets and started using corby bolts and brass pin stock.
Both the bocote and the cocobolo were not receptive to finishing, the tung oil just didn't want to dry at all so they are left natural. The amboyna burl was also resistant and i finally just decided to put polyurethane on it. Might try that on the bocote and the cocobolo later. I generally like at least a little shine on my knives as it highlights the woodgrain.
The CS mystery knife (3/16ths thick carbon steel (i think)) has a brass guard that i cut myself, the drill press and miniature file set helped me cut the tang hole super-tight. I guarantee this guard will never wobble, lol.

I have a CS Recon Tanto blade blank here which is next on my projects list.
It will be my first attempt at a leather ring handle, with a brass guard and Ka-bar style pommel as well! That will probably be a summer project.
And if any one wants to post their own wilderness knife mods here feel free to do so!
:)

Very nice work. I like how the ant is still visible on the blade.
Thanks!
I was surprised by that as well, all the markings are still visible even after the black paint removal and vinegar patina. I half expected all the marking to disappear when i stripped off the black paint.

Okay, I see a future for you doing mods for people around here. I bet you could find quite a budding market for Izula handle mods over on the ESEE forum.
