Quality will improve once the video is done processing.

You're lucky Joe. Wish I could have been there. Thanks for bringing it to the boards for the rest of us. I've never heard that technique for breaking boots in. Any negative consequences to that method?

Good stuff Joe, that must have been an amazing adventure for you.

I agree fully.
Take care of your feet. This means ignoring advertising and " the norm"
This also means ignoring the "military jungle boot' with "drainage". Which are garbage.

6 hour boat ride WOW. Bet it was awesome though. Makes my feet hurt just hearing this. :) I was issues Jungle boots for Panama training, but I wore my all leather leg boots at the time. No problems, but of course I took care of myself.

I disagree. From the jungle trekking standpoint of the RAT trainers, you really should have jungle boots. They were ticked that the OTB boots didn't have the metal draining holes to prevent thorns, or the panama sole to shed mud. Every single person had jungle boots there. Goretex in the jungle is a bad idea if you are going to be trekking through swamps. Buckets on the feet, leading to immersion trauma. I use jungle boots here in the states, and wouldn't be caught dead without them even in Florida.

Sure I like the Danner Rain forest boot as much as any other guy, but I would never bring it on a real jungle trip. My feet aren't thorn proof like the natives, but I can't wear gore tex down there. That is where the advertising didn't really sell well. Who would buy an insulated boot for a rain forest? (and yes I know they have un-insulated models, still looks like they hold too much mud for my liking. )

Joe what Jungle Boot do you like. I had a pair of Wellco's I liked alot

I will also testify to the efficiency of jungle boots. I did multiple tours in Vietnam (and other wet, jungly environments). We had jungle boots, but some units came incountry with leather boots. Those people had enormous problems with immersion foot or "paddy foot" as it was called (from walking in rice paddies all day).

Immersion foot took out more Marines and soldiers than bullets ever did in that environment. Take care of your feet. They need to drain and dry.

Joezilla, please post more videos. I really enjoy Jeff and Mike's no non sense approach. One day I will do a jungle trip with the RAT team. I did a one day compass class with Jeff and loved it.

I'm thinking that the training there would be applicable to surviving in parts of Florida and other Southern States.
There are some prettty rough and very large swamps right here at home.

I learned at an early age, to travel and get along in Florida swamps.

one great survival tool is language knowledge so USA citizens, learn spanish yo will not regret.
My domestic language is spanish and it´s great to know english.

enjoy ;-)

Don't worry, I will, and they will be more interesting.

I liked the OTBs myself. Jeff doesn't like 'em but I'm standing by them. They caught mud a bit, but other than that I was rather pleased by the comfort, light weight and grip.

My stand by is the altima though. I have a pair in 9 wide that I got new for 12 bucks at a flea market, and have used them pretty darn hard. They took forever to break in and still aren't the most comfortable, but with a new cushion on the bottom, they are tough as nails and hold as an everglades and canoeing boot in my eyes. THey are also made in America.

I'm trying HARD!!!! Do you have any tips for those of us who wish to become better at spanish?

Joe do you have your own channel on youtube? If not you could get one like Colhane's to put all the RAT videos in one place. Either way keep em coming. We love em.
