An email we just got from a guy who broke an RC-3. I removed the name and email address for privacy reasons. If he wants to post up here about it, then we welcome it.

Jeff

Yup, I was batoning a 2 inch piece of australian pine and hit a knot at a bad angle (I guess) and a curved chunk at the straight of the blade broke off and is still stuck in the wood.

Sounds good.

How many have been returned for warranty / breakage? I know you had numbers on the Izula at one point, I'm curious to know if the other RAT knives have similar figures. :)

I would suppose we have had maybe between 5 and 10 knives total returned because they broke. Shon may know better on this.

Any thing that can be made, can be broken! Any one with kids can tell you that. Plus 2 inch diameter seems a little much for a knife with alittle over 3 inch blade.

Man I'd love to see some pics of the blade...I wonder if he took any when it broke?

darkwaters - You and my mother would get along just fine. It never mattered "who" broke "what" because I'd always get blamed for it.

Have you ever had an RC-4, 6, or even 5 break?
Btw Jeff I bought a fire steel so I can be one of those people that never use modern lighters! There is no such thing as convenience!

I was the king of breakin/taking apart things, now my son has taken that crown. Jeff I know how you feel I fix things that if ppl just used common sense wouldn't need to be fixed. A/c is a little diffrent than a knife but same rule applies

Also proof that there is no such thing as a "best knife" or an "unbreakable knife" and even further proof that hype in the knife industry is just that: bullshit and hype. This whole industry is so full of it I don't even know where to start.

Hello All,

This is my first post in the Rat forum. I just posted an "I'll take it" in the sale section on a RC-5. I click over here all excited and find this thread waiting for me. Kind of ironic.

I've been lurking for some time and was ready to pull the trigger. Mr. R.A.T.s personality and no BS style won me over. Like listening to a tape of myself, Kind of scary.

I sell construction equipment for a living. Stuff breaks. It is the way you're dealt with after the break that builds life long relationships. This guy will tell everyone how well he was treated. That is the way to build a successful company. Kudos.

Just continue dealing with honesty and the brutal truth. If karma exists, the bullshitters will get their comeuppance sooner or later. :)

Oh god how I wish more people would understand this.
