A little apples and oranges comparison I know...This is a follow up to a thread I posted on Scrap Yard and the Swamp forums...so there is a little context that doesn't jibe...I had thought about just the Howling Rat and Gunny, but decided I wanted to work my S5 into it. I haven't been able to use the S5 much and since I got the WD and Koyote even less. I've loved the feel of it since I got it and have slowly worked on the edge.

We know which wins for the nicest sheath! More Rainwalker love...

This was some hard wood to chop...it's been down a year and is seasoning nicely. Ouch! 52 with the HR and 49 with the S5. At 60 with the Gunny, I gave up. My hands still smarting!

I spent more time with the Gunny this week and have got the hand of fuzz sticks and cutting a bit. It is a step ahead of the S5 and HR which both do very well. The finer work with the Gunny is nice. They all get smoked by the WD and Koyote by the way...

The batoning was a wash between the S5 and HR. Both were very easy to manage and blasted threw some knots. As I think about it, the S5 seemed a little easier and more able. The Gunny did well, just seemed harder initially. Those smaller pieces were tough and gave the Gunny a problem for a minute.

The Gunny is growing on me and I'm getting the hang of using it. I still find it not as good an all rounder as these two busse-kin and still like the WD and Koyote much more. Was nice to get the S5 out and work it a little. It's a great knife, took me awhile to work the edge for some reason and I still might round out the choil. I think the 5" range is kinda no mans land more me...I like 4" and then up to Camp Tramp and on. Still, it's a sweet camp knife!

Excellent photos. I really like the Bark River knives as well. I have had a Bravo 1 and was on the passaround for the gunny. I have a fox river that is a great little blade. I used to think it was a good size until I got into the Busse family. Of those knives I have to say my favorite is my S5LE. But I am anxious to put the RMD up against it.

Think I'm one of the few that prefer my S5 to the RMD now. I'm a bit rec c-centric! Plus, I think it brings a lot to the table with very little weight.
