I got a Rat-3 as a replacement for my BK11. I am happy with the exchange. The RAT-3 is user and just right for camp use IMHO. I noticed the blade and the micarta looked dry today. I rubbed in some mineral oil. While this is normal for my parkerized guns, I am curious about the micarta. The micarta looks much better. Will appying mineral oil hurt the micarta?

Thanks,
tjg

No I don't believe it will. I don't think I would do it often. When it gets hot in the summer it might seep out that would collect dirt & be hard to hold on to. Where did you get your RAT from? I have one on back order from Brigade for over a month now.

I have a Rat-3 and one side of the handle "looks dry". I do not believe it is any dryer than the other side, but I do believe it is the original finish of the outside of a slab that has not been sanded down. Sanding it down some I think would be better than putting oil on it.

I haven't noticed that about mine, but then, I've had them off with Mesquite replacements for some time. I just put the micarta back on a week ago. I agree with the others that mineral oil probably won;t hurt, but I wouldn;t think it was necessary. When Micarta gets damp, it gets more grippy. THe mineral oil might somehow affect that, I don;t know. Maybe sand it like Magneto says....

It won't hurt the micarta.

If you want the darker look, here is a tip. Spray it down with WD-40 and let it set for about 30 min (longer won't hurt) and then wipe it off with a paper towel.

I think you will like the way it looks. You can do this when ever it starts looking lighter.

With use the oils from your hands will do this also.
