I just received my RC-3, very sharp out of the box.

about 10 minutes later after a quick trip to the sharpmaker & stropping I ran a cutting test between the RC-3 & my EDC Military bg42 that I keep hair popping sharp.

I could not tell the difference in pushcutting news print, etc. I am very, very impressed.

I have to go to the range today & cut some carpet for loading tables, I usually use a razor knife to keep from dulling my EDC as most used carpet here in the SW is impregnated with sand & will significantly dull a blade, any blade after several 4 foot cuts.

RC-3 vs heavy pile carpet vs razor knife.

Using both a razor knife with fresh blade & the RC-3 serrated I went to work.

In a moment a snyposis but first one observation that really impressed me.

The serrated edge of the RC 3 walked through the carpet with marginaly more effort than the razor knife and the cut was only very slightly more frayed, however there was very little if any perceptable dulling in the serrations.

Cutting with the razor knife took less effort & the cuts were cleaner however the blade dulled quickly by comparison it seemed.

Anyway I cut a couple of 4' X 4' squares which is not a very exhaustive test but, to me, illustrated two points. The RC-3 serrated cuts impressively well & there's several reasons that carpet layers use razor knives.

Not scientific but my per4sonal conclusion is that if I didn't have a razor knife the Rat 3 serrated would be my first choice. Ruff Cobb

Well razor blades use a lower quality of a harder steel that is very sharp but edge retention is not very good at all. 1095 on the other hand is good for hard use and will take hell.
