Sorry, if I'm asking a dumb question but which one would be a preferable purchase - F1 or RAT Cutlery RC-3 considering they cost pretty much the same and I also want a good sheath for both city carry and camping?

I've got them both and love them both. They are pretty different knives.

The RAT-3 is thinner, which makes it more compact and easier to carry inside a pocket. It's also a fantastic slicer. I don't like the pointy pommel on the new ones.

The F1 has a thicker laminated blade with a VG-10 core, convex ground. Mine has a full cover leather sheath which I like a lot. It's compact, but not as easily concealed as the RAT-3.

The handle on the F1 feels a little better in my large hands than the RAT-3 handle, which is almost too small.

The RAT-3 comes in D2 and 1095, the 1095 is very easy to field sharpen.

If you've got the chance, handle both and see which one you like best.

I have both. Both are very good knives. The RC-3 has more of a "tactical" sheath that it comes with...a very tough (I want to say "plastic"-type, but it's no doubt some very tough stuff that's probably not even close to plastic in composition.) You can wear it on your belt, and it also has clips to attach it to military web gear, if need be. The RC-3 is made out of 1095, I'm pretty sure it's differentially tempered.
The F-1 has a VG-10 core, with 420J2 laminated around it. You can get a leather sheath for it.
The RC-3 is a more compact package, easier to conceal, if that need arises.
It's all going to depend upon what you'll be using the knife for, primarily.
For concealing in a city (if you are legally allowed to, that is) = RC-3.
For Bushcraft usage = F1.

He's asking about the RC-3.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Ordered RC-3 plus Ontario RAT folder. Can't wait.

The next similar fixed knife for me would be Busse AD, I think :)

p.s. and about the legal part - it's legal to carry ANY knife in Ukraine if it has the blade shorter that 3.5 inches (9 cm).
These knives cannot be considered a weapon and you also don't need a legal reason to carry them.
Knife should also possess a number of required characteristics to be considered a weapon, such as injury-free handle with a "limiter" so the hand won't slip on the handle when piercing the target - that's why SOG Pentagon is not a weapon in Ukraine "_*

Your English is very good. What you call a "limiter", we call a "guard". Just to get you up to speed on English terminology....makes for better communication.
I have two AD's, they are just great...FYI.

Thanks for the tip. I knew how it's called but had trouble remembering it when was writing the post :)

Consider the Rat folder a smart buy since they are not making them anymore. I have one, they are good, solid folders...you will like:)
