So after lot's of research and mind-changing, i have settled on getting a RAT RC-4. It will be my primary 'go to' blade. Now i am trying to decide on which sheath for it.
I really like the look and feel of traditional leather, but the cordura sheath seems to be a thinner profile and 'jump-proof' too.
Anybody have the leather sheath, how do you like it? And how do any of yall like your RAT blades?
Thanks fellas.

The choice between leather and kydex is simply personal preference. If you like it, get it.

They both have their plus's and minus's, and if well made will last you a lifetime.

Leather rusting a blade is an old wives tale, if its good quality leather it will not rust your blade simply by contact. Don't re-sheath a knife when its wet, any sheath will hold water next to the steel. Always try to keep the blade dry and wiped down with at least a simple oil before storing.

Leather, kydex, its all good.

Personally, i prefer cordura. It's more low profile, isn't as hard to pack up and is generally less cumbersome. Kydex is of course another option but you didn't mention that in your post so i'll stay on topic. Leather is always fancier looking and pretty classy but i have a tough time getting leather molle gear to attach to my nylon molle pack.

Just my preference.

Consider this. I have the EESE-3MIL that comes with the Molle Back. While it looks like it would suffice as a belt sheath, it does not. It does have a big loop that you could fix a belt loop to (which I did) and then you've got a 3" knife in a tacticool drop-leg sheath. That did not suit me so I constructed a screw on belt loop and keeper so I could carry this conventionally on the belt.

For this reason, I would vote leather simply because the leather sheaths for these knives that I have seen for sale were conventional belt carry mode. I have no Molle gear. I am quite confident that had I some molle gear (and it's on the list) the molle back would work very well. It has the elastic pommel envelope or whatever it is called for super secure inverted carry.

I'd try the kydex sheath that comes with it, maybe with the molle back. I really like the factory sheath that came with my 4.

If you're thinking about custom leather, Leatherman above makes a sexy Randall style sheath. No connection to him, don't even own one of his sheaths, but the quality sure seems to be there from all the pics I've seen.

BTW, the 4 is an excellent blade. My go to blade as well.

So i'm now curious as to whether the kydex sheath has a belt loop. Anyone know? I wanna be able to pack the knife on my belt.
Thanks.

there is no "cordura sheath" for the rc-4. The standard version of the rc-4 comes with just kydex sheath. For about an extrra $15, you can get the molle nylon backing. It does have what I would consider a belt loop with velcro on the back, just peel apart the velcro, put the belt it, and then re attach the velcro.
