The seller says it is D2 and has Mike Perrin and prototype etched into the blade. There is no factory finish on the blade and it comes with two sheaths. Is this a limited run or some type of prototype? I am very new to these knives and don't really know what I'm getting. Could this be an Ontario made knife and if it is how would I know?

Thanks in advance for the help

There is no such beast from RAT Cutlery.

So would this be an Ontario knife? Could it be prototype?

Or, should I just pass and buy an RC3 from a dealer? Where is a good place to buy RAT knives?

I would pass and buy a new RC-3 from a reputable dealer.

I am in the process of getting an RC-4 from: www.knivesshipfree.com

They have AWESOME customer service, very competitive prices, and have lots of positive recommendations from members on this site (including me!)!!

Did I mention they have GREAT customer service!

Sounds like the older Ontario RAT-3 model. I have 2 myself (back before the days RC was in full swing). These are similar to the RC-3, but the handles are smaller (one of the reasons i am looking for a RC-4).

if it is D2 that is not RAT Cutlery ,sounds like a proto type RAT3 which is Ontario.Sounds like a knife not to be used ...
