Is there any particularly good article, or post, which would cover the differences between the various series or models?

For example, I am trying to decide which of the following series would have a superior choice for a blade that would be good as combat, heavy duty chopper, and survival knife. Looking for a fairly large blade (7 inch preferrably or maybe even 6 inch)

Survival Knife e.g. RC-6

Tactical and Buschcraft e.g. RC-4

Ranger RD Series e.g. RD 9

Ontario Rat Series e.g. RAT 7

RTAK Series e.g. RTAK II

I am also looking for a new knife that i can use for my next deployment and also for when i am back in the states hunting i am thinking about a RC-5

As this is the RAT cutlery forum, and you want a larger blade, most (including me) will likely reccomend the RC6, or the upcoming Junglas, which is a 10" blade. The RC 5 may also meet your needs, but would be shorter than your specs. I personally can't speak on the Ontario blades, as I don't own one.

I do have an RC 4. It is a great all around blade. It doesn't chop or baton as well as the longer blades, but that just gives you a reason to get another one. Which ever one you choose I'm sure you will learn to use it and make it fit your needs.

This is an intervention...are you addicted to RAT?:D

If you want a larger blade I'd wait for the Junglas to come out or get the RC-6. The Bravo 2 is also a good choice.

I beat the living hell out of my rd4. Most people get the rc series but I got a really good deal on this one.

OP, go with an RC6. I would shy away from ontario (including their rat line and ranger line)

+1 to everything said.

Also keep in mind the bombproof and idiot friend proof warranty that RAT Cutlery offers.

You DO NOT get this warranty with Ontario rat knives or rangers...

Is RAT the company which has the RC designation on the blade?
Ontario RAT is a whole different blade?
