Interesting Idea, but I was a little afraid of what I was going to find when I opened the thread.... :D

This actually is kind of a cool concept....

Not sure about how feasible it would be to produce, but a nifty idea for sure. Rather than concealing an Izula-styled blade, which would be overly broad to fit properly inside such a narrow area, I think a puuko-styled blade might be better. :)

Cool idea, but I think it strays from the "no nonsense" motto that RAT has. One doesn't really need a walking stick. It's a bit of a luxury. A spear typically needs to be longer, but I like the ol' Rambo survival knife idea at the handle, with a compass and storage area.

...and we make so when we cast it on the ground it becomes a snake!

Not saying this idea is totally off the shelf but it does stray a bit far from what we do.

could be the breakthrough product into that REI/LLB crowd

understood, I just know alot of people do use staffs while hiking and such. also it blends many tools into a useful object. just thought I would throw it out there bro!

As always, ideas are much appreciated. Now, if we can figure out how Moses did that trick with his staff in the 10 Commandments, then we'll definitely make it.

there are a few Survival Staff being sold $100-$250 + range and they are cool but how many would drop that kinda of cash on a hollow aluminum Staff ? I like the concept but yet to buy one already marketed.....

To make a staff turn into a spear, you want as sturdy a basic shaft as possible. Adjustable height is fine if you don't know what kind of a staff you want that day till you get there, but it's less reliable for heavy use stabbing or striking.

Pat Crawford has a survival staff with a dagger blade for a spearpoint built in, but even that is not an instant conversion. You have to unscrew a few fittings to set it up each time.

If you could build it out of a nice hardwood, with a break in the middle, like pool cues unscrew with the spear/izula attachment point on one end it could be a useful sturdy tool. It could also have different ends for different uses like a spike or a rubber end for better grip on varying surfaces.

If it broke in the middle it could also function as emergency shelter poles (or firewood)...

Just typing out loud

could use Bamboo and make your cuts at the joints or rings and then hollow out the top section to hold some PSK stuff .

it was just a thought.

And thinking is never a bad thing. :) It's always a good thing to try and come up with new ideas. Some work, some don't. The journey and the resultant discussion, are valuable things.
