i was scanning through fleabay after reading some of the railsplitter knife thread, and i ran across an ontario-rat/queen stockman. ram's horn covers,d2 steel and a punch! i vaguely remember seeing them in an a.g.russell catalog some years back and wanting one but i never pulled the trigger. did/does anyone have one, and what were the f&f like? pics are always nice too!

I have one, and for mine the Fit & Finish is very good. All the blades open fairly easy but the springs are quite strong, takes a fair amount of pressure to close the blades, no half stops. Solid, well made knife, and I like the Ram horn scales. John

thanks John L. any idea of what price point they should be around? the one i saw went for not too much, and i'm kinda kicking myself for not getting in on it. is yours a user or more of a collector? i just think one would be great as an edc. for around the house and my one year old-not something he could open easily or accidentally grab from my pocket. the rams horn scales on these and the railsplitters look really nice ,imho.

I don't think you can ask about prices unless you have a gold membership (see forum rules in the stickies). It may be helpful that the knives were made by Queen for Ontario. You might compare them to similar patterns that are branded Queen and look at the prices in closed auctions.

Sorry. The discussion forums are for the discussion of the knives themselves, rather than prices or where-to-buy information. Jake's suggestion to look at ended auctions for prices is a good one. But, since this one is out of production, remember that auction prices for used knives are highly dependent on condition.

thanks guys. i do need to look at the guidelines. my apologies for any mistake(s).:foot: ended auctions will be checked out. i have seen a horseman type stockman , with a hoofpick as well as the punch, in bird's eye maple listed elsewhere. perhaps that would be a somewhat close approximation-i dunno. i do have some idea about the vorpal blade but not ,maybe, the one you have in mind:) it was the reason why the romans changed the construction of their infantry helmets to re-inforce the crown, and had to do with a particular style of sword. it curved at the tip, or back from it a ways, and it allowed the roman opponents to reach over the top of their iconic shields and deliver a crushing blow to the crown of the head. otherwise i'll have to buy some twenty sided dice to play;), if that's what you're thinking of.

I think Frank is referring to the Lewis Carroll poem... but if you dress up like a wizard and bring the Mountain Dew and Cool Ranch Doritos, then we'll let you borrow some 20 sided dice. ;) :p

Jabberwocky

I don't have the Ontario stockman but here's a photo of a stockman branded by the same manufacturer (Queen). This knife was a generous gift from another forum member.

This vintage Queen stockman has an unusual configuration of 2-blades

SupraT i can't read anything on the forums right now-don't know why,but i'm going to have to sign off . i"ll try totomorrow

Neal70, I do not know about price, but mine is a user. I EDC'ed it for quite a while and agree that is not a knife a one year old could easily open. John

ha got back on. SupraT and John L. one thing i really liked was the ram's horn-to the eye it reminded me of somme of the earlier csc offerings put out by a.g. russell. i kinda love d2 and the way it holds an edge, a good working edge when sharpened correctly(assuming agood ht originally). thanks for the pics as well SupraT- they make me want some variation of this pattern. what color is the lower ,2 bladed knife? i'm color blind red-green so i can't quite make out the scale color.

The handles on that vintage Queen knife are a red synthetic material. The ram's horn covers on those Ontario knives do look nice. I don't know if Queen used the same material on other knives.

Size comparison-
great knife -beautiful scales.
I got this one off ebuy -not cheap but not insane either.
I'm glad I got it -lets put it that way:)

Meako: all four of those are fantastic. i really don't know if i prefer the jigged, sawn( i think? ) or natural best! from the right to the left is it case(queen maybe?),case, tidioute, puma? any info on size and maker(s) would be great. that pic is stellar as well-clarity,background and contrasts between scales and overall sizes.sorry if i typed that as one run-on sentence, i got alittle excited:).

R-L RAT D2 ramshorn,Case lge stockman sawcut bone,Northfield Abilene copperhead jigged bone and an old Puma jigged bone.
The Case large stockman is a tank so the RAT is up there size wise.
cheers.

ok that settles that. i really want a traditional folding rat or two. now to figure out what to sell for 'em and where to find 'em;) the chase is (tahn, tahn, tahn) on.:D

Meako : it doesn't help that i just found two railsplitters and a stockman on fleabay, and know that i really should have bid on the one that started this thread. oh well, hindsight's 50/50 (1/2 the time yer right and 1/2 the time yer wrong).
