My bro is a new Busse/Kin fan so I decided I wanted to get him a swamp warden for his upcoming 38th birthday. I'm hoping the Mods will let this stay here, as its the only section he checks and this is where he'll discover his gift. His birthday is the 26th, so the sooner he sees it, the sooner he gets it.

Ok, so it wasn't enough to just give him your average, run of the mill swamp warden. I owned and sold this exact set up, except mine was done by Norcal, and the sheath was done by Steelnut. I decided to replicate the set up myself. It started life as a sage warden that someone had written their name on with a Sharpie...

First I stripped it. This coating was TOUGH! as the stripper barely took it off. Never had this problem before.

It basically just loosened the coating. I had to scrape it off by hand.

The Razel offered some help.

SR101 is smooth, but gray when unpolished

Here it is completely stripped and only hand polished. Edges are still square

Here is the finished product. I used a sanding disk in a hand drill with adhesive backed sandpaper up to about 800 grit. I "melted" the upper and lower edges of the grip with 80 grit paper. You shoulda seen the sparks fly! Of course I cooled it off every minute in some water, never letting the blade get remotely hot.

Melted upper edge, the butt end was left square for popping beer bottles. :D:thumbup:

Melted lower edge and guard

I hit the whole knife with wet sand paper: 1000, 1200, 1500 and 2000 grit. You can still see some dimples. Its not perfect

Now for the sheath: This idea was Steelnut's design (this isnt his sheath though, sorry Scott... it was a combo package) This is a strip of 3M's industrial "dual lock" with a belt clip from Knife Kits.com attached to a Mashed Cat.

You can pull of the clip (not easy) and adjust it how ever you want:

Or horizontal:

Or anywhere in between:

Happy birthday bro! I hope you like it! I sure could use a nice Leaner Meaner... or Desert Jack! :D

Nice job man!!!
Turned out awesome!!!!
Glad I could help out!!! ;)
I am in the process of getting my brother a CG Mud Puppy and Al Welke pancake sheath for his b day in Sept.

I think it was my sage warden. I wrote my name when I thought I was going to send it to a kydex bender. It was one of the first of this new model and it didn't fit the old kydex pattern. You must have gotten it from Steve! It is so funny how these knives make the rounds. Back and forth to Alaska.

I haven't seen my Waki that my buddy wrote redneck slayer on with a sharpie floating around.

Looks great by the way.

Awesome! Even better. It has history. Knowing it was in Alaska makes it even cooler. Thank you, in a round-about way!
