I'd like to know how are you who have them liking them? I'm looking at getting a new folder and I saw the Rat Trap and thought it looks really nice. How well does it open and close? How is lock for the blade? Thanks for the help!

It opens and closes quite well! Smooth operation and a positive clunk when the lock engages.
The lock is more than strong enough for me, but some may say the liner is a little on the thin side.
Pushing down on the spine while open may make the liner flex a little, but I've never seen a problem with that.

It's very thin, so you won't feel it when clipped to your pocket.
Yet when you open it, it's a big folder and the handle provides a very nice grip with good texture.

Get one!

I've only handled one, but don't own one yet. If someone told me that they were made by Spyderco I could believe them because the Rat Trap is very much like the higher end Spyderco Military model in excellent fit, finish, design, and materials. I would consider these knives to be virtually equal on many levels. But you can get the Rat Trap new for $140 or so, while a used Military or other super-high-end Spyderco might cost that much.

I picked up a pair of them about a year and a half ago - one for me and one for my son. Mine has been with me ever since and has been the best folder I have ever carried. Very thin and unobtrusive for the cutting power you get and holds an edge well. Unless Busse ever releases a folder I have not tried anything at anywhere near the price that is really comparable.

I highly recommend the Rat Trap. I've carried one for about a year and a half, pretty much every day. I recently got one for my son - he loves it.

If either one were lost or stolen, I would immediately order another to replace it.

I'd get one - except the clip is on the wrong end of hte knife. Just like CRKT. I like the Benchmade/Spyderco placement. Other than that, and one would be in my pocket right now. :(

Might need to get it. There recalling Marines to go back to Iraq and I'll need a good folder for my 4th deployment.

Check the for sale forums on Bf, if you don't want to wait 3-6 months.;)

I've had three rat traps since they came out. Two of those were sent overseas to friends of mine in Iraq; they love them and use them every day. The other has been my constant EDC ever since. You will not find a better made knife for every day carry than the rat trap. It is so thin you barely notice it in your pocket. I highly recommend this knife.

Thumbs up! VERY good f/f, exellent lockup.
As for tip-down only - it rides very low and opens by spyderdrop quicker than Spydies (I like oval hole better in this part)

I have carried mine daily for about 10 months now. Love it obviously. Only thing I need to do is pull the clip off and bend it slightly so it clips tighter. It has loosened up to where it would fall out of my pocket if I got at the right angle.

and I wouldn't worry too much it it doesnt say swamp rat on the clip... if it is a user the clip will soon be worn shiny anyway.
