Here are a couple pictures of my new Rat Trap, which arrived yesterday from Shomer-Tec.

How Interesting!!!!!

Got mine a few days back from the Swamp Rat store. However it does not have the Swamp Rat
engraved on the carrying clip. Everything else looks the same.

I am curious tho, as to why they cut the grooves in the top of the blade where your thumb would be in a grip. Because those grip slots on mine recess down into the handles when locked open and are basically useless. Would like to have seen them elevated or the handle cut down slightly to where my thumb would contact them. If I had the skills that some of you guys have, I would cut those grooves on toward the tip of the blade another 3/8's of an inch or so. and maybe trim down the curve of the handle in front of the lock back pin just slightly.

But don't get me wrong here, this is an awesome knife and will definitely be a user. If not an EDC.

Oh, I love how the back edge of the blade is angled where the liner lock matches up . Will definitely keep the lock from going all the way to the opposite side. And, when I am griping it, the clip is almost unnoticible in my hand. Clips on some other knives are uncomfortable in my hand.

Can't wait to try it on field dressing and quartering a deer. Headed back to the deer camp in a few weeks.

Great Pics!!! Thanks for posting t
hem!

Thanks LFH.

Did your Rat Trap come with anything other than the zippered case? Mine, from Shomer-Tec, did not come with any paperwork, i.e., warranty, etc.

The knife and zippered case is all I got also....

As far as a warranty, I read on the Swamt Rat site something to the effect that if you think it has a problem then they will fix it. (my words) In other words it is guaranteed for life.

Might want to look at their website. Cool wording on the warrranty.

I actually went and check the Swamp Rat site after having posted my previous question. You are absolutely right. The site provides as follows...

We regret to inform you that due to our low prices and high cost of manufacturing that we are unable to offer you a conventional guarantee like so many others found in the cutlery industry today. To be quite honest... we simply cannot afford it. Legalese, doublespeak, and smoke and mirror loopholes cost way too much nowadays. It is for these reasons that individual warranty issues are to be handled solely by you. That's right... YOU decide whether or not your knife should be covered by warranty. Do you want to give yourself a five year warranty... a ten year warranty... a lifetime warranty? Do you want to guarantee your knife against normal use... or do you want to guarantee your knife against insanely stupid over-the-top extreme abuse? Don't ask us... it's your decision. We will honor any guarantee that you give your knife against major damage. Makes sense doesn't it? It is your knife. We're telling you to trust your life with our knife. Shouldn't we trust you with being the warranty claims specialist?

TRANSLATION: LIFETIME WARRANTY... NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

I agree with you about the thumb grooves. They don't really provide a lot of purchase, although I can feel them against my thumb in a sabre grip (if that's the correct term). I'm not a hunter, so I won't get the chance to see what the Rat Trap can do on a deer, however I think it might make a very easily carried EDC, notwithstanding its size. As an attorney, I'm usually wearing either a suit (when I'm going to court) or khakis, most of which have a very handy knife pocket inside the right front pocket (I think normal people use it for change). The Rat Trap fits comfortably inside this little pocket and is easily and quickly accessible when needed.

Hey guys!

CongRATs on getting your Rat Traps! I recently got one as well and it hasn't left my side. As far as the grooves on the spine of the blade, I agree...they don't seem to do anything when the blade is open. But they do seem to help a bit with getting the knife out of my pocket. Just a little extra grip.

Thanks for the great pics Ron!

:D

Congrats to the cats with the folding Rats!!

Since the liners don't extend into the area of the thumb grooves, simply get a needle file and score some matching grooves into the handle material. If you've a very steady hand, I suppose you could use a Dremel to do it too.

Is that Rat Poetry RokJok? :)

Thanks for the congrats guys. The RT is in the back pocket as we speak.

Thanks for the suggestion on how to groove the handle, but will carry it a while before I go messing with it. And I been looking for an excuse for that dremel cordless.....:D

360,

Thanks for your kind words, glad you liked the photos. I'm going to work on doing some better shots in natural light this weekend.

You can get them either on the main rat website or at Shomer Tec.

Mine was $138.00 from Shomer-Tec and I was able to get in on their free shipping special. I'm not sure if the free shipping is still available.
