If anyone out there has both a Spyderco Military and the new Rat Trap I'd like to know their opinion of the two knives. At least to me they look rather similar. The Military is my fav big folder but I've heard great things about the Rat Trap I'd like some input from folks who have both and what they think are the pros/cons of each.

I retired my military in favor of the rat trap. The rat trap rides lower, thanks to it's clip placement. This is a plus to me, as I am surrounded by sheep all day long. The rat trap is also a bit lighter, which is a plus , as I am usually up and carrying a knife 12-14 hours a day. I have actually forgotten that i had the rat trap on on a couple of occasions. it really is that slim and light. The wide blade is a better for everyday utility use, and, in my opinion, the blade tip is a stronger design.
Overall, if my primary goal was SD, I would go with either, with a slight nod to my spydie's serrated, nasty serated blade. But, for everyday usage, I carry the rat trap.

I am going to find out.I am a big fan of the Military.I just bought a Rat Trap because it is designed like the Military but I think I will like the blade shape even better.

I have a Para Military and Rat Trap and it's a tough choice the Para's being a little smaller than the RT make it my first choice most of the time :D

I own both a Rat Trap and a Military. IMO, the biggest advantage to the RT is the more robust tip. I broke the tip on my Military doing cutting that I did not consider abuse. The Millie tip is very thin and fragile (again, IMO). I also prefer the shorter RT handle and the lower pocket ride. The RT also has a smoother opening. The only advantage that I can see in the Millie is the fact that the longer handle allows for two distinct grips. Choking up on the handle greatly aids delicate work, especially for such a large folder. Maybe that delicate work is why Spyderco decided to make the tip so damn thin. I have since reground the broken tip to a more useful shape for the type of cutting I do with my knives. Even so, my Military is now only a backup to my EDC Rat Trap.
