Anyone out there with experience or knowledge of both of these knives? Since they both have S30V blades, I'm more interested in design/ergo/feel type impressions- unless you also have use stories to tell.

TIA, Mike

Thanks Laceration, very helpful. I was hoping for more of a one on one comparison from someone who has both. I have the Ritter Griptilian (which also gets rave reviews on the forums) and I like the knife, but I am also a Swamp Rat fan. The Grip carries a bit thick for my pocket, but with the obvious payoff when it comes to using it. I am trying to find out just how much bigger the Rat Trap is. Sounds like the handle is nice and thin, but I've never liked liner locks and I prefer tip up carry, so I guess the hunt goes on! Thanks again!

Just trying to help. I personally don't like liner locks in heavy duty knives like the Rat Trap or Military but I haven't heard of anyone losing digits with either of these knives either. What I can tell you is that the SRKW Rat Trap's S30V is far superior to Spydercos. I'm still waiting to try Benchmades but there was a notorious episode of the Ritter's S30V being very brittle and chipping. Not so with the SRKW. I cut metal (!) with that blade with no chipping or deformation visible under a 10x loop and it still shaved effortlessly. I had the Rat Trap on a passaround and didn't need to even do a touchup after subjecting it to harsh (not abusive) tests that Spydercos S30V blades couldn't even do. The Spydies did well but ALL of them needed a touchup to send to the next guy in good faith (except the Viele II which is an awesome gentleman's knife and is cast out of VG10 whch I prefer to their S30V). The Rat Trap is very impressive but I think the next iteration, especially if they pay attention to the passaround and current owners, is going to be absolutely legendary. It may even surpass the BM710.

the only thing i dont like about the rat trap is the paper thin liner. it works well, with no problems, but is the thinnest liner ive ever seen.im just not too crazy about it.i wish the liner on it was thicker........

I am with you on the thinness of the liner, it just doesn't inpire me, however, after over a year of usage, it hasn't failed ( under normal everyday usage for a folder ). With Swamp Rat Fixed blades, they inspire you with confidence to throw any cutting chore their way - if they beefed up the locking mechanism on their folder, with the Rat Trap blade profile and treatment of S30V, they would have a hands down winner.
What has impressed me is how good S30V can be - the SRRT has shown me how good this steel can be if treated right.
I look forward to the Rat Trap 2, a large light weight folder with a kick ass locking mechanism that inspires heavier usage.
