59 folders / 52 years old and have never had or held a RAT. Please be gentle with me. I have a question. I want a RAT 3. And I want to be able to carry it horizontal on the belt at the small of the back. I guess I need a 101 course in the RAT carry systems. Is this possible without spending more on the carry system than the knife itself?
Thanks for your help.

Hey Coop, the RAT cutlery RC-3 comes with Molle locks which will allow for either hori or vertical carry. They work really well but are not the easiest to put on or off.

Paracord can also be used and works pretty well.

My favorite though is the large Tec-Loc from Bladetech. Easy on and off and very adjustable. Worth the $12-$15 bucks and can be taken off easily and used with other sheaths as well.

+1 for the Tec-Loc.

With the stuff that comes in the bag and the Tec-Loc, you can carry this knife any way but Sunday!

Another option is the MOLLE back. Thread your belt through the PALS loops on the back of the MOLLE back and it holds quite well. You can also skip one loop, and use it as a belt keeper kind of arrangement.

+1 for the Tec-Loc, or any Blade-Tech attachment hardware for that matter. They make great stuff.

purchase the mole back version but I do suggest getting the TEK-LOC works flawlessly,I use tek-locs on my izula & RC3 for horizontal carry.

Here are a couple of pics showing the MOLLE back and a Tek-Lok on a belt. The Tek-Lok fastens directly to the molded sheath. The MOLLE back will secure the knife better but the TEK-Lok can be put on and removed without taking your belt off. Of course that would be quite difficult with it behind you.

the answer to any style of carry on the rc-3 is (YES).....I think you would have a hard time finding a way you can't carry it.........drew

The RC3 just as it comes would be just fine the way in comes from RAT.You will be happy!!

I carried mine with just the paracord, horizontal, small of back and it wasn't too bad, but then again, I'm almost skinny enough for the 3 to stick out both sides (not quite but 5'10 150# doesn't leave much around the middle) for a bigger guy it would work better I'd think, and the paracord keeps it snug to your belt with the cord lock, or a good knot.

The 3 MIL comes with all of the sheathing options and the knife has a few changes.

There is a serial number visible
sharpened pommel
canvas instead of linen handles

I think that is it.

I like the paracord belt loops method. Very easy to string up for horizontal or vertical carry. If you use the little cord gripper clip to secure the paracord, then you can remove the knife from the belt without remving your belt. You just pullthe clip of the paracord and rip the paracord out through the sheath holes.

This is the paracord loop set up for vertical carry. You can easily see how it can be set up for horizontal - just reversing the direction of the loops.
