Hello Rats, for my first thread I thought I should give a quick overview of my first Swamp Rat knife. I had been thinking I need a good fixed blade (like a junkie needs a new crack pipe :) ) and was looking between a Becker, Scrapyard, and Swamp Rat when this popped up on the Exchange for a good price and I snagged it. It came in the mail this afternoon and I had some time to spare before work so I took it outside. The edge on it could barely cut paper but it cut off some 1 inch branches and took the leaves/stems off with no effort. After work I took it to the Sharpmaker and it is cutting paper easily now but it’s not as sharp as I would like it so I’ll work on it tomorrow. I didn’t get any action shots but I’ll try to get some tomorrow and over the weekend. After the short while I used it today, I can see why it is a fan-favorite among Rats and non-Rats alike. It has a nice feel and balance to it and the ergos are fantastic.
Here’s some pictures before I cleaned it up some and sharpened it.

The seller I bought it from said this sheath was homemade and it came with the RMDx when he bought it. The retention is great and it has a solid snap and no rattling.

I was soooo tempted to buy that one. Great price. Lucky I already have one though. It's a great blade. Just keep that SR101 coated in some oil.

There she is...enjoy it Bill.

When I was thinking of keeping it, my plan was to send it to Horndog here (assuming he still doing some sharpening) and have him work the edge for me. I would have actually asked him to thin out the blade a bit more...the shoulder of the convex i thought was a bit to close to the cutting edge. But Horn Dog would make that knife a laser.

I would have joined the group knocking off the top guard too...

That does look great. I'm new to the Swamp Rat line and didn't realize it came with a full guard. I have a custom RMD getting built that comes with only the partial guard.

Thanks guys!

This is the LE version of the Ratmandu. The blade is a little bit longer, there's a full guard, and it has a satin finish. There may be more that I'm missing. One of the more senior Rats may add more or correct me.

Thanks Rich! I took it out for 2.5 hours today and it performed admirably. I may contact richard j and get it REAL sharp.
