The story:

After a long 15 hour day on the 19th I finally left work at midnight on the 20th. Drove home loaded the van hooked up the trailer and drove to deer camp. Pulled in around 03:30 unloaded and hit the coach blinked my eyes and it was 05:00. took a shower got dressed for a day of sitting on stand and woke up the guys. My friends informed me that they weren't going out until 09:00 and planned on sitting the day outside. I told them I'd see them in the woods. After 2 hours on stand I decided to fight off the urge to sleep by having a cigar.:eek: About 15 minutes into the cigar I hear deer running. I look over my right shoulder and a young buck and doe go running by my stand and stop twenty yards in front of me and start looking up the bluff, more noise, two more does and another buck run directly under my stand and stop just past the other two then two more does come walking down from the left side. So there I am looking at deer right in front of me from 10 to 50 yards totally unaware of the hunter watching them while he puffed away on a cigar, it was pretty cool sitting there and watching a young fawn snuggle up to mom and lick her neck and start getting playful. Moments later I can hear a buck wheezing and snorting and down comes two more small bucks and a doe. At this time I decided to ditch the cigar. More snorting from up behind me and here comes a decent 8 pointer, he wasn't very wide though and didn't have a lot of mass. When he came down all the deer started moving down the ravine and up the other bluff. Then I here a slow trot on me left and with out turning my head I can see half of a white rack. The killer here is I'm a lefty. Anyway he ends up stopping and smelling the air then walks down a little further and stops again. This time his head is behind a tree so I swing a leg over the stand to get position for a shot......he bolts down the bluff quartering to the right and is already 60 yards and hauling butt.......BANG.:D

See above pic for the outcome.:thumbup:

Sorry to post and run but off to work I go. I'll check back when I get home.

Have a good one.

You mean you didn't jump out from behind the tree with your RMD in hand? :)

Very nice deer. Congratulations.

Thanks folks.

A few of the guys took some pix with there phones later that day when we took him out of the field. When I get one I'll post it up.

Congrats  How did the Ratmandu handled the job? I never tried mine yet, I always thought it was to big for field dressing. I usualy use smaller knives but I might bring it with me next season.

Thanks for sharing that good story;)

Caption time!

Dude. Let me go back to sleep. I spent all night at Jerry's house and my head is pounding. BTW - seen my Ratmandu anywhere?
