Ratmandu first impressions

Well...today I got my Ratmandu. This is the fourth swamp rat I have acquired, and I have to say, it makes the best first impression of any of them. The handle fits me better than any of the previous generation did, the area just in front of the top swell takes my thumb like it grew there, the choil is well executer (not too small or large as has been the case with a couple of the others), the handle texture is really great, and I love the muddy color/texture. This knife also appears to have been the beneficiary of better quality control by far than all three of my other rats. The bevels are evenly ground, there is no wavey edge either from the side or viewed top down, the knife is almost sharp which is better than any of the previous rats. In short, I think i am going to love this knife. I will post updates as I get to use it.

I really like mine too. Just sent it to Eric at On/Scene for a kydex sheath.:thumbup:
 
I like kydex, but I need the top of the handle to be at or below the top of my belt....I need to ask Eric if he can do that for me. Oilman, when did you send yours?? and what handle is it (micarta or g10?) Maybe he can use yours as a pattern to make me a sheath as well.
 
That Ratmandu is on the very TOP of my list right now. I love them.

Mine went in the mail with a FFFBM Saturday and is going to his addy in MI where he will pick it up by Thursday and then get my sheaths done.:thumbup: Mine has the Black G10 handle.

I go by size as to what sheaths I like. Little knives - Kydex, Medium knives - Leather, and Big Knives - Canvas. I don't know why I prefer it that way but I do. I couldn't find any canvas that the FFFBM would fit in so I had to go custom on it and I was already sending something to Eric anyway so it got added. I also don't like the handles riding too high on my belt either but I'm hoping it will be level too.

Where did you get the two sheaths in your top picture? are they from Leatherman? Oilman, thanks for the timing on your shipments, I wonder if the G10 and the micarta scales are the same thickness.

I made them, obviously copying heavily from Leatherman's design :eek: I am a rank amateur compared to him. He makes his stuff the way he does for a reason. They are very functional. The only thing I tried to do different is on the back, near the bottom I put a tie down strap thingy. Not because this knife is long enough, but in case you ever wanted to attach it to something, inverted or otherwise.

I have a micarta and a G10 and they seem like the same thickness to me, although I have not measured them. I could if you wish.
