Ratmandu Proto with longer blade?

Does anyone have any more information about the Ratmandu Prototype that has I think a one inch longer blade? It was like 1 of 12 or 1 of 13 or something?

Was this a proto when deciding how to make the Ratmandeux?

Is this going to be available as a regular run at any point?

How much does it weigh?

Depending upon the weight I think this knife might beat out my Busse TM-DSF for weight / blade ratio...

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Stan, I don't know anything about the history of the knife. That being said, I have one in front of me so I can make an educated guess. I believe that it would be a prototype for the Rat-Man-Duex LE. The handle shape is different than the original RMD and with the exception of the top guard and the full height convex grind, everything seems the same as the LE.

What I do know is that it is 1 of 13. The blade is 7/8" longer than the RMD. It weights 11 oz. It has a full height convex grind. It has a Sage blade and Black Paper handles. It has the new style SR logo on the left side of the blade and is marked on the right side with two lines: "PROTOTYPE", "1 of 13". Also, all edges are rounded over.

Hope that helps.

It's a prototype of something that will come out eventually. Proto comes before the release or actual model-so it would seem we will see this CG ver. It seems as if it is the CG (coated ver etc) of the RMD LE. Which at an inch longer or however longer they will end up being- it is essentially a brand new blade or a variant of the original RMD LE. Im sure we will be able to pick a few micarta handles blk/tan and blk paper etc and the option for the many different blade colors (Sage, Black, Muddy, Moss, Tanker-etc) That would be my guess. Would love for them to offer G10 from the start, but I bet those will be seen after the release- @ shows. I'll be buying 1 or 2 whenever they come out.

The RMDxLE is the go to knife.I ground the upper guard off the minute i got it.
It is a perfect fit now. Thin enough for close work, long enough to baton if
need be.
Ive got pics of mine on here but dont know how to re-post them.
If somebody could do that that would be cool.
The RMDxLE without the upper guard should go into production.
I believe they would sell one or two.

Tewlmaker, your pics are no longer available on village photo therefore no-one can see them. I backtracked all of your posts and it's the same with all (only went back to the first RMDxLE pic post). If you get that taken care of I (or someone else) can grab them and put them over here, or someone can explain to you how to do it (it's not difficult). If you can figure out what happened at the photo host and get the pics viewable again someone will jump in...

Here's mine. Left on a thumbramp, at a reduced angle. And a grapefruit patina. :)
