RatManDu sheath & blade maintenance?

Hi guys,

I'm getting my new RatManDu any day now, and I still don't have a sheath for it. I've also never owned a non-stainless blade before, so I'm wondering...

1) What's your favorite sheath(s) and where'd you get them from?
2) What should I do to properly maintain the blade? What limitations does it have compared to, say VG-10 that I should be aware of?

1) SpecOps Combat Master (small) is what I use. They're discontinued, I think, but you can find one 2nd-hand or of similar manufacture... The plastic insert can be heated and molded to fit the blade as you like. I have a kydex sheath for my HRLM (little brother to the RMD) from Azwelke who sells on ebay and the exchange subforum here. There are other kydex-benders and leather-workers on the forum - check the Swamprat sub-forum for more specific direction.

2) The RatManDu has thick protective coating on all but the edge. I just keep the edge clean and dry over-night (as i do with any knife/tool) and haven't had any rust issues. "Limitations": don't leave unprotected parts soaking in water (esp. saline) or acid for an extended period of time and not expect tarnish. That's pretty much it, in my experience in Midwest USA.

Any other sheathes that are easier to get a hold of? Like on Amazon? Or do I pretty-much have to get them custom?

I put light coat of mineral oil on all my carbon blades. Costs like $2 in pharmacy aisle at walmart. One bottle will probably last your entire life

Most, if not all, of the custom makers here sell RMD sheaths. Mashed Cat, Azwelke, Rainwalker, Kiahdex, Chuddy Bear, Buy Brown, Armoralleather, are a few that I can think of.
