RATs and their various purposes

I have now held every RAT Knife in the current line and now have a question:

I cannot imagine I would need (as opposed to want) every one of these.

The RC4 seems like it would be plenty for Bushcraft purposes if combined with a Chopper/Machete/Hachet and a good pocket knife. Maybe add the RC6 and I'd have a rig that could not be beaten.

Any opinions on this?

P.S. The Izula is going into my small survival kit...

The line is varied enough that each knife will excel at particular tasks with a fair ammount of overlap between them.

The 4 is a great slicer but the 3 is better but the length of the 4 makes it seem like...... you get the point.

I personally feel that the 4 is the sweetspot on the line, it does almost everything well.

The RC4 combined with a chopper (kukri or hatchett/tomahawk) and a pocket knife would be a very good setup indeed. More and more the RC4 gets in my hand for most tasks it is such a well thought out and executed design.

The whole line up are indeed fantastic but I too find the RC4 to be the best for most tasks.

The RC-3 strikes me as more of a self defense or daily use fixed blade, as it's thinner and faster than the other knives.

My wife likes the Izula, but its currently residing in my bug out bag.

I'll be getting an RC-6 soon to round out the collection, I really don't have any interest in the RC-4 because it didn't feel like it had the same balance as the '3 or '6 (too thick for its size) but that's just personal preference.

I don't see how anyone could only have one RAT.

I won't. I've decided on an RC4, an RC6 and an Izula.

Combined with a Pocket Knife and a Hachet, I think I
could handle almost any wilderness in the U.S.

Perhaps when Jeff and Mike produce a 9 or 10 inch blade, I'll add that.

Thanks to all who have given me input-- I really appreciate it...!

I agree with you 100%. The 3 and 6 are my favorite RAT blades. The four is nice but it is a little thick for me for its length, and I prefer the added length of the 6 for its greater all around capabilities.
Get the RC-6 as soon as you can. It is a GREAT blade!

Good plan you got there. I have a 4 and an Izula and Am looking to add a 6 and most likely a 3MIL.

you guys are forgetting the rc-5! I believe that blade alone can handle any enviornment

For me the 3 is the best all round blade out there. Izula's to replace any folder made, (or at least for me!), and a 5 for heavy work out of a "must not fail" type. I am tempted to get 4 to see why some folks like it so much but....do I really need it? A 3/4 axe and, for the environments I end up in, I am set. As an aside, I think kukri's are well over rated as a machete type of tool. Read "The Jungle is Neutral" for some very good discussion on why. I have a Gurkha made on that I will not get rid of as it was given to me by serving Gurkha soldiers and as a close quarter weapon it is great. As a machete, no thanks.

I agree. They're the Leatherman of the chopper world. Not quite an axe/hatchet, and not quite a machete. It will never replace either for me. I have my Condor Bush Knife for that, and it's more versatile and lighter weight.
