I bought three new rats in the 2004-5 timeframe - Howler, Bandicoot, and camp tramp. None of them came with sheathes yet I see plenty of posts of others from the same general time frame w/ sheathes. Was there a time period when sheathes were not supplied or is it just my typical luck?

iirc, I've slept since then. The CT came with a nylon sheath with plastic liner. The Bandicoot came with a leather sheath, and the Howler had a few different sheath offerings from nylon to leather. My Howler came in nylon and my 'coot came in leather. I still have my nylon sheath that came with the CT.
I dont remember them ever being offered without sheaths, but I have been known to be wrong on occasion.

Before the latest incarnation of SRKW website (might have been well before the old site went down) there were optional sheaths on the store page for a few models, RMD and Rodent Solution IIRC. So there was a time that sheaths could be had together with the knives.

Just like the Ergo line, you got a sheath weather you wanted one or not. Cheap nylon or cheap leather. The Swamp went sheathless when Busse did. The company stores did offer optional sheaths, I really miss that.
The first of the CT's came out with some sheaths that were so tight you could barely get the knife out, not hard to fix though.

Interesting. I just do not recall receiving a sheath for any of the three I purchased. But in fairness I did pick them up from the third party seller who I thought had a direct connection with SRKW. It's not that big of a deal the HR has an awesome aftermarket sheath and the CT has a homemade one that, well, is "semi adequate" and in need of replacement. I'll order one from one of our sheath makers on this site.

During the last few months of the resiprene rat era they stopped sending them with sheaths and went to the cardboard sleeves. That's also about the time that they started coming out with short run knives, like the Rat Daddy and Dog Skinner. None of the Rats from then on came with sheaths. Most people discarded them to get custom ones made anyway.
Every now and again, people would list their old included sheaths on the exchange for cost of shipping. Been a while since I've seen that though.
