does anyone here take their rats fishing with them?

im going to spend 5 days in nags head with my fiance before i change units and i decided to buy another RC-4 (this will be my third, my 6th rat 2 izulas,1 3, and 3 4's ) to take with me.

has anyone here had any experience with the carbon steel around salt water? also i got the ksf leather sheath for it as i have for all the rats ive bought so im looking forward to seeing how its fairs in salt water and sand

pics would be great. thanks all.

I have no experience with salt water but they should hold up as long as you lube them up and clean them realy well when you are done.

I use carbon steel knives almost exclusively for everything.. while my experience with rat is limited, I know that Seafaring people where using carbon teel knives and passing them down from father to sun for generations... worse come's to worse it;s nothing a little wet /dry can;t take care of.

Yea, as long as you keep after it, it should be fine. The KSF sheath is coated too so it should be fine as well.

Jeff has said that he doesn't use carbon steel around salt water but what the hell does he know.:D

I had a Rat 3 that I used fishing in fresh water and never had an issue. I got some rust on it in the logo that was hard to get out, but the edge was easy to clean up.

yeah my fathers side of the family has spent alot of time around the sea and they have knives almost exclusivley from carbon steel and some of the knifes are over 40 years old and none of them were ever coated muchless with anything like the nice coat that comes on a RAT.

My wife wears her Izula and I have my RC4 & Izula on us when we fish,my son carries a RC3,no issues but do require a wipe down and do not store them wet.

Yeah, I use my Izula while fishing (and all the rest of the time, too :p) and I've never had any issue. Just keep it wiped down.
