I have nothing against buying through internet based retailers. However, I was wondering if these knives are sold in local stores. There are a couple of stores in the Portland area that carry decent sized knife selections and it would be nice to actually put my hand around a few before purchasing. I'm very new to using anything beyond a SAK, multitool or cheap folder.

Thanks,
Jay

I can completely understand your want of putting your hands on it before you buy it, but I would just go head and order one. I have the RC3 and Izula and love them both. They feel great in the hand and are real users. As for a local retailer you might want to check RAT's Website http://www.ratcutlery.com/onlinedealers.htm and see if there is anybody that sells them locally around you.

By the way which RAT(s) were you thinking about getting?

I know some sites will let you return it if your not happy once you recieve it. There is a list of RAT retailers on the RAT website. I'd run through there and see where they are located, and it will give you a good selection of companies to purchase from over the web.

As a general purpose, all around knife, I was thinking of the Rc-3 or 4 with an orange handle.

I paid $15.00 to get into a gun show just to look at the Rat knives. I'm hooked and have ordered a couple with more in the future. I want all of them!

yup i completely understand. being a small business owner, i really prefer, if anyways possible, to buy from a local biz. have you been down to hawthorne cutlery? about 32nd or so...southeast. they do business with blue ridge knives, a wholesaler who sells rat knives. the guys there can(havent asked em to order anything for me so im not sure what their policies might be around special orders-at my shop after 20+ yrs in retail and dealing with special orders, if i do not know you or you are not a regular $ spending customer, i require a 50% NON-refundable deposit, thata ways i eliminate the folks who just wanna touchy-feely and then go order online somewhere-just saying they DO have access to rat knives if they chose to do that for you) order thru blue ridge if you prefer local purchasing. i've bought some local, handmade knives there. seem to be decent folks. they also have small laminated copies of oregon knife laws particularly the recent change to carrying switchblades. they support right to carry. worth checking out if you have not already.
