I posted this in the general forum, but wanted you fellow woodsman to see this too.

A little while ago I noticed that my TAK in D2 and my RAT 7 in 1095 were just sitting around no being used. The reason why, While the RAT 7 was a good chopper, I sucked on wood work on any level (I mean the edge just didn't want to even strip bark). My TAK was just lieing there begging to be used, but it was dull as ever because of my fail convexing experiment. So I contacted Scott over at Razorback Knives and asked if he could put a convex edge as well as buff off the coating for a satin finish. Of course he said sure, and into the mail they went. About a week or two later Scott e-mailed saying they were done and on the way home. Now i did get to see them until I came home from Otakon (Japanesse anime convention in Baltimore MD. I was working there providing sound and video not as a partiptant). When I got home around 10:00 pm there they were. Sharp as razor, and shiny.

The next day I went out and did some very basic test like stripping bark, making stakes for my hammock, etc. They excelled beyond my expatitions. Once I get a chance to test these further i'll post pics. Thanks Scott for bring these knives back to life.

Scott did a wonderful job there for you! I too have both these knives and although I did not remove the blade coating I have convexed them on my cheap 1x30 belt sander. They are much more user friendly now and my two most favorite knives. I guess I got a "good" heat treat on my 1095 RAT-7 as it will chop and cut for a long long time between sharpenings.
However, I am saving some dollars as I sure want to get one of Scott's knives, I wish he would toot his own horn a bit more as he sure makes some spiffy looking blades. AL

Thanks Al and Kyle.;) I have to say after doing a couple of these Jeff Randall Ontarios, I feel they are very well done knives. Jeff knows his stuff when it comes to knives and these designs are fantastic for their intended purpose. The only thing I would change would be the handles. I think they would be better if contoured like TOPS does with theirs.

I'm looking hard at a TAK-1, and all I have to say is, more handle material is better for me. I have a file and I ain't afraid to use it! :) In any case you spiffied those two up very nicely, Scott!
