I know you guy's don't like Ontario (neither do I) but the RATs were designed by the same Guy's from RC...am I not right ? So I think I should still be able to trust this knife until I can get my RC-6 or RC-5 (still undecided) :D

What's the difference with the Rat 7 and RC6? Besides size. Same designer? Same materials? where's it made? Just curious.

I personally have some RAT knives to go along with my RC knives. Nothing wrong with them.

You have a couple of nice blades there. They should perform for you very well together.

Regards, Les.

The RAT series of knives were made by Ontario for Rat Cutlery. Then Rat Cutlery started making thier own knives RC-x etc. One big difference is the RAT-3, 5, 7 & RTAK-II are available in 1095 & D2 tool steel.

Everything else is besides the point and history.

Is D2 better or just more rust resistant? I have a Rat on order but just wondering if RAT is going to come out with any different blade material? Probally not till I order 3 more knives??:)

D2 Tool Steel has a high Chromium content which gives it mild rust resistance. The main benefit is that it is a tool steel so is very hard and will retain an edge and has high wear resistance. That is assuming proper heat treatment.

Great Score ..... nothing wrong with the RAT7, it was one of my favorite knives for many years.... Congrats !

ironmike, there are downsides to D2 as well. Chromium steels tend to be very brittle and for rough use like chopping and digging, can chip the edge.
